learning class during the pandemic. The participants of this study were 61 students
of the English Grammar for Spoken Discourse online learning course in the
Department of English Language Education at a private university. This study
was quantitative research through a survey method. The data were collected by
distributing online questionnaire through a Google Form. The result of this study
from the OELE instrument shows that the highest score was cognitive engagement
Q12 (M= 4.34, SD= 0.663). While the lowest score was behavioral engagement
Q22 (M = 3.50, SD= 1.063). Thus, it can be concluded that during online learning
the cognitive engagement plays an important role in encouraging students’ active
engagement in class. Therefore, further research can investigate how behavioral
engagement can increase students’ involvement assisted by teachers.
