dc.description.abstract | The aim of this study is to analyze students’ view on the use of reading log in
learning extensive reading. The participants of this research were two students of
Islamic Private University who already took Extensive Reading course, the lecture
applied reading log into their teaching. The data were collected from the in-depth
interview, and transcripts as the main source. The construct of the interview is
based on Day and Bamford (2002) that consist of 10 characteristics: a) students
can read as much as possible; b) a variety of materials on a range of topics is
available; c) the purposes of reading are usually related to pleasure, information
and general understanding; d) reading is its own reward; e) reading materials are
well within the linguistic competence of the students in terms of vocabulary and
grammar; f) reading is individual and silent; g) reading speed is usually faster
than slower; h) teachers orient students to the goals of the program; i) the teacher
is a role model of a reader for the students; j) students select what they want to
read. The design of this study was qualitative study. The researcher analyzed the
data by using thematic analysis method by Braun and Clark (2006). This finding
revealed that the participants were experiencing extensive reading characteristics.
However, both of participants did not experience the read at faster rate and read as
