Peran Pondok Pesantren dalam Meningkatan Karakter Masyarakat di Lingkungan Pondok Pesantren Al-kandiyas Krapyak Yogyakarta
Abstract
This research aimed at finding out about the roles of Islamic boarding schools
in improving the character of societies in the neighborhood of Islamic boarding
school AI-Kandiyas Krapyak Yogyakarta. This was a field research, namely a
research that is conducted intensively, in detail, and in depth to a particular object by
analyzing a case. The object in this research was the society that lived in the
surrounding of Islamic boarding school AI-Kandiyas Krapyak Yogyakarta.
The data collection was done through observation, direct observation, i.e. the
researcher conducted a direct observation in the field towards any situations regarding
the subject under study; the observation was done both in the situations that occurred
naturally and in the situations that were manipulated in a particular way. Meanwhile,
indirect observation was by observing any situations regarding the subject under
study. Interview was done by having systematic question-answer sessions at Islamic
boarding school AI-Kandiyas Krapyak Yogyakarta. Documentation was by searching
for data in the form of records, transcripts, books, journals, and etc.
The results showed that the roles of Islamic boarding school in improving the
character of the society in the neighborhood of Islamic boarding school are through
the activities of majelis ta'lim, mujahadah gerbat (spiritual movement), haul and
graduation, as well as voluntary massive activities, in a way that these activities bring
significant contribution to improve the society's character. To improve the society's
character is done by effectively optimalizing the activities at the Islamic boarding
school, any relevant sources and media, giving motivation and role models, as well as
inculcating that everything is to return to Allah the Almighty. The improvement in
the society's character is marked by the character values towards God the Almighty,
character towards the environment, character towards self, character towards family,
character towards others, and character towards society.
