dc.description.abstract | The diversification of pavement construction materials and the road pavement materials
technology is one of steps being pursued by our government. Asphalt emulsion is asphalt which
mixes with water in the form of emulsion. The merger of asphalt and water is possible since there is
a catalyst additive. In this study, the presence of stone dust as a filler would be replaced by bagasse
ash as an alternative. This study aimed to find out the advisability of the bagasse ash in replacing
the filler in the mixture of Asphalt Concrete Layer AC-WC with Asphalt Emulsion and seek the
influence of the addition of bagasse ash over the characteristic of Marshall, Indirect Tensile
Strength, and Permeability.
The study was conducted in five stages. The first stage was the testing of material
characteristics consisting of agregrate, asphalt, and bagasse ash tests. The second stage was
determining the optimum bitumen content on the proportion of alternative filler 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%
and 100% bagasse ash. The third stage consisted of the Marshall and Indirect Tensile Strength tests.
The fourth one was to conduct Permeability test. The fifth stage consistedof the analysis, discussion,
and conclusion of the testing results.
The result showed that Clereng bagasse ash as an alternative filler in the mixture of grade
asphalt concrete layer AC-WC with asphalt emulsion met the specified requirements so that it could
be used as an alternative filler. The mixture of grade asphalt concrete layer AC-WC with asphalt
emulsion using bagasse ash as the alternative filler had a change in Marshall characteristic at KAO
stability was decreased, the flow increased. MQ value increased, Density value increased, VITM
value decreased, VFWA value increased, and VMA value decreased. As the proportion of the
bagasse ash filler was increasing, the Indirect Tensile Strength of the mixture of grade asphalt
concrete layer AC-WC with asphalt emulsion was increasing. On the permeability test, it showed
that the mixture had a poor drainage characteristic towards water after being varieted by the
proportion of bagasse ash filler. The permeability value of the mixture of grade asphalt concrete
layer AC-WC with asphalt emulsion using bagasse ash as the filler caused a decrease. | en_US |
