    Abstract
This research aimed to elaborate on the engagement of an EFL learner during an online writing course. The participant was a student of the English Language Education semester 3 who had some experience and a deep interest in writing skills in one of the universities in Indonesia. The data were collected through semistructured interviews. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The finding concluded that the participant (student) shows the three key aspects of learning engagement, there is behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement in the writing online courses. Even though the participant had obstacles when involved in collaborative learning, the participant kept engaged well in the online writing course. Thus, this study concluded that EFL learners who still engage in online learning tend to behave well in online collaboration during writing courses.
