Challenges Faced By Efl Pre-Service Teachers During Teaching Practicum In Yogyakarta Vocational High Schools
Abstract
This study is aim to explore the challenges faced by EFL pre-service teachers (PST)
on their teaching practicum and investigate the strategies to cope with the challenges
during the teaching practicum program. The design of this research is a qualitative
study with descriptive method. The participants of this study were the last semester
of two pre-service teachers enrolled in the teaching practicum program in two
different Yogyakarta Vocational High Schools. The data was taken by interviews
which applied through thematic analysis. The data analysis was based on research
question and guided by conceptual framework of the study. The finding revealed
that adaptation factor, classroom condition, and students’ characteristic contribute
as challenges for pre-service teachers. The skills, attitude, knowledge in designing
activities in teaching become the strategy mastered by pre-service teachers to deal
with those challenges.
