dc.description.abstract | This research aims to explore the teaching strategies of an EFL teacher teaching English for young learners in a private elementary school in Yogyakarta. The aim of this research is to describe the teaching strategies used by teachers in teaching young learners in grade 1 and grade 2 levels in a private elementary school in Yogyakarta. This study used qualitative method to analyze the data. The respondent of this study was one English teacher in a private elementary school in Yogyakarta. The data was read and examined by using thematic analysis. The data were collected by observing teaching and learning activity, conducting the interview with 1 English teacher, and analyzing some documents. This research revealed that 5 important components influence teaching strategies applied to teach young EFL learners, such as methods, tools or media, communication, techniques and discipline. The application of teaching strategies in learning provides benefits and challenges for the teacher. In its implementation, the teacher applies the PPP (Presentation, Practice, Production) method which is supported by the Montessori method, uses several tools and media in learning activities, applies several ways of communicating with students based on the student's character, always checking the students understanding and manage the class to get an organized learning process. | en_US |
