    Abstract
Several Junior High Schools in Yogyakarta city have implemented solid sorting method (organic and inorganic) by using garbage containers without giving labels in their containers, this will reduce the effectiveness of waste sorting. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of labeling on waste containers to the suitability effectiveness of waste containers by using a benchmark of waste composition. Another purpose in this research is to know the students, teachers and employees knowledge about waste control. The method of this research is observation, waste containers placement, sampling, waste sorting, questionnaire distribution and data analysis. The results of the data analysis showed that the composition percentage of the waste in the waste container with picture label was more effective for waste sorting in the waste container than lettering label, that is 51% of lettering label and 70.5% of picture label on paper waste containers, 73% of lettering label and 85.9% of picture label on plastic and bottle waste containers, 50.7% lettering label and 73.2% picture label on organic waste containers in Yogyakarta Public Middle School 4. Meanwhile in Muhammadiyah Junior High School 2 Yogyakarta, 57.6% of lettering label and 76.5% of pictre label on paper waste containers, 58.6% lettering label and 76.8% picture label on plastic and bottle waste containers, 58.9% lettering label and 72.7% picture label in organic waste containers. The effectiveness of the containers suitability is also influenced by the knowledge level of the students, teachers, and employees iin the knowledge they get, so that they are able to distinguish between paper waste, plastic waste and what is organic waste.
