Incubation Business Through the Mangrove for Coastal Resilience (M4CR) Project by Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency (Brgm RI)

Abstract

The Mangrove for Coastal Resilience (M4CR) project by the Peat and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM) aims to strengthen coastal resilience through mangrove rehabilitation and community empowerment. Business incubation serves as a key strategy to enhance the entrepreneurial capacity of coastal communities. This report analyses the role of business incubation in developing mangrove-based enterprises, along with its challenges and solutions. Through field observations, interviews, and secondary data analysis, the program was found to improve managerial capacity, product diversification, and market access for community business groups. However, challenges such as limited capital, restricted access to technology, and insufficient business knowledge remained significant obstacles. To address these, M4CR provided funding (Matching Grants), training, and mentoring to support economic sustainability and mangrove ecosystem conservation.
