dc.description.abstractOne of the problems faced in Kutai Kartanegara Regency is land degradation and negative influence from the mining sector. The government made forest and land rehabilitation programs in an effort to restore damaged forests by preserving them and making forests a more economic resource for the community. This study aims to determine the role of government and community participation in forest conservation for the economy. The research was conducted at the Environment and Forestry Office of Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province. The data in this research is obtained by observation, interview and documentation by using qualitative research method. The results of this study indicate that government efforts in forest conservation for the economy have been implemented but there is still much to be improved such as making blocks to preserve the forest that still many not known by the community and still many irresponsible people doing illegal logging.en_US
