    Abstract
    The amyl chloride plant gives very good prospect, considering the requirement of amyl alcohol in Indonesia which progressively increase. Preliminary design of amyl chloride plant from pentene and HCl is planned to built in Cilegon, the province of West Java, in the land area 15.710 m2 with production capacity 20,000 tons/year. This chemical plant will be operated for 330 days or 24 hours a day with total 145 employees. Raw materials needed are C5H10 1.3291,75 tons/year and HCl 6.910,27 tons/year. Production will be operated at temperature 150°C and pressure 3 atm, a reactor cooler used water. The convert reaction is 99%, which produced amyl chloride, and water. This plant are needed 26.537,35 kg/hour of water processed in utility unit, and 188,7934 kWh of electricity power provided by PLN and also need a generator as reserve. An economic analysis shows thats this chemical plant need to be covered by fix capital of about Rp 223.063.500.318. Working capital of about Rp 69.631.209.395. The profit before tax is Rp 87.108.333.868 while the profit after tax is Rp 43.554.166.934. percentage of return on investment (ROI) before tax is 39,05 % while after tax is 19,53 %. Pay out time (POT) before tax is 2 years while after tax is 3,4 years. The value of break even point (BEP) for about 40,19 % and shutdown point (SDP) of about 18,85%. Based on the economic analysis. It is concluded that plant design of pentene and HCl with capacity 20.000 Ton/year visible to build.
