Business Development Assistance Through Business Incubation Activities Provided By Peat And Mangrove Restoration Agency (Brgm Ri)
Abstract
This report examines the impact of business development through business
incubation activities on the economic productivity of communities in peatland
areas. Peatlands often face challenges in economic growth due to limited access to
capital and different environmental conditions. Through the business incubation
program facilitated by BRGM RI, the community groups (Pokmas: Kelompok
Masyarakat) are empowered with training, mentoring, and access to resources used
to support their business development in peatland areas. The data in this report
include primary data and secondary data. The primary data were collected using
the visible study method. A visible study is a study which refers to a type of research
in which participants are aware that they are being observed or part of the study.
The sources of the primary data are interviews and direct observation of conditions
in the field. Meanwhile, the secondary data were obtained from previous
research. The results of the direct observations show that the incubation program
effectively and significantly increases knowledge and skills in business
management, market access, and production capacity of Pokmas (the community
groups). This increase contributes to increasing income, economic welfare, and
productivity of farmers in peatland areas. Thus, the business incubation program
is an effective strategy for regional economic development.
