    The Correlation Between EFL Students Speaking Self- Efficacy and Speaking Ability in a Vocational High School

    Abstract
    Although many studies have discussed the correlation between speaking self- efficacy and speaking ability, the research on EFL students in vocational high school with majoring in hospitality is still limited. This research aims to determine the correlation between EFL students’ speaking self-efficacy and speaking ability in a vocational high school, in Yogyakarta. This research was a descriptive quantitative study with the type of research conducted was correlational research. The research population was all participants of class 10 at state vocational high school in Yogyakarta, totalling 74 participants. This study took the sample by purposive sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire. To collect the data, the researcher used a printed questionnaire. Used instruments from Asakereh & Dehghannezhad (2015) there was 25 items. The data analysis of this research was product moment correlation. Based on the results of the analysis, it shows that there is a significant correlation between EFL students’ speaking self-efficacy and speaking ability in a vocational high school with correlation coefficient was found to be (r = 0.735) (p value = 0.040), it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between EFL students’ speaking self-efficacy and speaking ability in the strong category. The researcher suggested that the students get self-awareness for them to improve speaking self-efficacy through speaking ability.
