Pengaruh Temperatur Cetakan Karet (Rubber Mold) Pada Spin Casting : Studi Kasus Proses Pembuatan Souvenir Plakat UII
Abstract
Generally souvenirs are items used to remind certain moments. Souvenirs
are made with a variety of materials, one of which is pewter. Pewter is used
because it has a shiny color. Pewter craftsmen area in Kota Gede of Yogyakarta
produce souvenirs made from pewter using the technique of spin casting foundry.
Spin casting is chosen because the process is fast. In the process casting of spin
casting, there are some things that affect the casting results one of them is the
mold temperature.
This study aims to determine the effect of mold temperature of rubber on
spin casting to foundry product of UII plaque souvenir. The temperature in the
mold is measured using a laser thermometer attached to the pouring hole on the
mold. The mold used is silicone rubber RTV 585 plus talc. The process of
temperature variation uses the residual heat from the previous casting process
which utilizes the waiting time to obtain different temperatures.
The result of this research is making prototype of plakat souvenir that
symbolizes UII and Yogyakarta. Based on the temperature variations of the molds
performed, the precise mold temperature in the process of making UII souvenirs is
a mold with a temperature of 60 °C.
