    Abstract
    Acceleration of growth in the number of people over the years causing volume of trash was increased and that can be associated with a lack of public awareness in the process of sorting the trash. The process of sorting the trash was influenced by the level of education and socio economic conditions. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the effect of education and socio-economic level to desires of the people in sorting out the trash. Numbers of samples in this study is 36 houses from 3 sub-districts in Bantul. Data collection process using a sampling method named stratified proportional random, with the population density which can represents overall of Bantul. Methods of sampling and measurement of trash and that composition is based on standard SNI 19-3964-1994. To test the effect of the level of education and socioeconomic to trash separation is using chisquare method. Chi-square method is a kind of comparative tests, conducted on two variables by ordinal and nominal data types. Results of this study concluded that the outcome trash from settlement in Bantul amounted to 2.0925 liters / person / day, equivalent to 0.309 kg / person / day. The trash composition are 48% of organic trash, 18% of paper trash, 18% of plastic trash, 7% of textiles trash, 4% of metal bins, and 5% etc. The results of chi-square test, with a significance level of 5%, showed that the level of education and socio-economic conditions affect the process of sorting the trash in Bantul
