    Abstract
    Preliminary plant design of Fuel Grade Ethanol with capacity 5.000.000 litre/year will be built in Menggala, North Lampung, in the area of land 3.390 m2. This chemical plant will operate during 330 days/year or 24 hours a day with 155 employees. Raw materials needed are cassava starch 584,5959 kg/hour, water 1.998,9821 kg/hour. The hydrolisis process the produce glukosa operates at 100˚C temperature, and at 1 atm pressure using Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) with conversion 97%, and the fermentation process to obtain ethanol operates at 35oC of temperature. The utiliy consist of 646.8411,1718 kg/hour of cooling water, 271.8395,9119 kg/hour of processing water, 1.4583 m3/hour of housing water, 371.1672 kg/hour of steam, 38.343,2599 kg/hour of fuel while the power of electricity of about 350 kwh provided by PLN. This chemical plant also use generator set as reserve.An economic analysis shows that this chemical plant need to be covered by fixed capital of about US$ 12.682.372,01, working capital of about US$ 1.178.253,10. The profit before tax is US$ 2.248.719,39 while the profit after tax is US$ 1.911.411,48. Percentage of return on investment (ROI) before tax is 17,7311 % while after tax is 15,0714 %. Pay out time (POT) before tax is 4,9429 years while after tax is 5,6911 years. The value of break even point (BEP) for about 31,9186 % and shut down point (SDP) of about 14,6401 %. Based on the economic analysis, it is concluded that plant design of Fuel Grade Ethanol with capacity 5.000.000 litre/year interesting to built.
