The measuring instrument used in this study is the optimism scale (Life Orientation Test-Revised) by Scheier & Carver (1985) in the study conducted by Simanjuntak (2011) and the depression scale (Geriatric Depression Scale) developed by Adams (2001) in the research that conducted by Mutiara (2016). The results showed a negative relationship between optimism and depression in the elderly (r = -0.703; p = 0.000).en_US
