This research aims to investigate English teachers’ belief toward online news as authentic materials. Thematic analysis was used in this research. This research used Jacobson, Degener, & Purcel-Gates (2003) and Tomlinson (2010) frames to investigate the teachers’ belief in identifying the function of online news as authentic materials. The data were collected through interview toward teachers assigned in public and private schools in Yogyakarta in order to investigate the use of online news as authentic materials used during the teaching. The researcher found that there are contributing experiences that play role in constructing teachers’ belief on online news as authentic materials used to teach English in EFL context, including the teachers’ beliefs, linguistic background, past teaching experiences, and cultural value held by the teachers.en_US
