This present study has the purpose to compare students’ self-assessment and teachers’ assessment. The study was conducted in a private university in Indonesia, involving 25 students and a lecture in Essay Writing subject. The researcher distributed selfassessment questionnaire checklist developed by Mazloomi & Khabiri (2016) to the students and give the same instrument to the lecturer to gain the data. The researcher employed quantitative as the method and statistics inferential to analyze the data. The results of the study point out that there is no significant difference between students’ selfassessment and teachers’ assessment. It is indicated that between teacher and students there was a good agreement thus students were able to assess themselves by using the same instrument with the teacher. Moreover the researcher found low correlation between students’ self-assessment and teachers’ assessment in writing skills; it might possibly be affected by some factors such as lack of practices and subjective errors in the previous performance. All these factors are not elaborated which becomes the limitation of the study.en_US
