dc.description.abstractInfectious disease is one of the most problem in the field of health one of which is caused by bacteria. One of the bacteria that can cause infectious disease is Shigella dysenteriae. Shigella dysentriae is an intestinal pathogenic bacterium commonly known as the bacteria that cause dysentery (basiler dysentery). This research to determine the activity of active compounds of temulawak rhizome as antibacterial to Shigella dysenteriae. The preparation of temulawak extract was done using maceration method to obtain crude extract and VLC (Vacuum Liquid Cromatography) to obtain the fractions, including n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, and ethanol fraction. The antibacterial activity test was performed by diffusion and dilution method. The results showed that crude extract of ethanol at 5% concentration had the greatest antibacterial activity with mean value of inhibit zone 18.1 mm. The results of phytochemical screening showed that ethanol extract of temulawak rhizome contain alkaloid, terpenoid, phenol and flavonoid compounds.en_US
