Background: Stroke is the highest cause of death in Indonesia and bout 81% of strokes are an ischemic stroke. Hyperglycaemia often accompanies strokes and is thought to exacerbate the outcome. The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) is a systematic assessment tool for measuring the clinical degree of stroke. Objective: To determine the correlation of random blood glucose level on admission with the clinical degree of outcome in ischemic stroke. Methods: This observational analytic research used a retrospective cohort design. The number of subjects of this study were 48 people and divided into 2 groups (hyperglycemia and non-hyperglycemia). The data were collected from medical record patient of RSUD dr. Soedono Madiun. Random blood glucose was assessed on admission at stoke unit and NIHSS score was assesed when patient out or move to ward. Statistical analysis of data using chi square test. Results: The number of hyperglycaemic patients with a moderate-to-severe degree of ischemic stroke was 14 and not sever were 10 people. The number of non-hyperglycaemic patients with a moderate-to-severe degree of ischemic stroke was 7 people and not severe was 17 people. Analysis with chi-square test showed a significant result between the correlation of random blood glucose of admission with the clinical degree of stroke [RR 1,8 (95% CI 1,01 – 3,21) p = 0,04].en_US
