Halal Supply Chain Management Framework Focused on Food Industry (a Systematic Literature Review)
Abstract
An absence of unified regulation to maintain the halal status in all processes throughout the supply chain can cause a big risk for all parties in halal food industry. Therefore, a halal supply chain management (SCM) standard becomes a necessity for every stage in the halal food industry. In order to make the standard, researches are needed to make it more reliable and precise. Unfortunately, there are only a few researches about standards in halal SCM on food industry, but it is known that there are some researches about halal processes on food industry supply chain around the world, thus, this study can try constructing framework of global standards through some processes on halal food industry supply chain. Finding the good framework of global standards in halal food SCM can be helped by systematic literature review (SLR). SLR is a methodologically rigorous review of research results. In conducting systematic literature review there are five phases that have to be followed, which are: question formulation, study locating, study selection and evaluation, data analysis and synthesis and also, result reporting and usage. The research identifies and analyzes the standards in halal SCM based on its macro processes; Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), Internal Supply Chain Management (ISCM), Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Halal Assurance (HA). Based on the findings, it is found that every macro processes have to be synergized in order to maintain halal integrity in food industry because they are continuous processes. Every process has to ensure that the foods are safe, clean, hygiene, wholesome, and halal-compliant. This research results in a framework for maintaining halal status, safety, cleanliness, health of food product in halal food SCM based on that macro processes.
