Buildings have a considerable impact on the environment if it is not planned, constructed, and operated properly. The principle of sustainable design is one way that can be done to minimize the impact caused by such development and the architect has a role in applying the principle of sustainability in every design of the building. Kostel Gejayan is a boarding house with an equivalent hotel facility. It is built on an area of 381,186 m2, amid densely populated settlements. As a commercial residential building, the main focus in design is how the design can provide benefits for the owner. However, not only that, a good design, must consider the aspects of land conditions, comfort and health for the inhabitants of the space, and especially in relation to limited land, in the middle of densely populated settlements with the distance between buildings that coincide . Therefore, this research was conducted to evaluate the application of sustainability principle in design of Kostel Gejayan by using the benchmark contained in GREENSHIP. The aspects that will be evaluated include appropriate land use, efficiency and energy conservation, water efficiency and indoor health and comfort. Based on the results of the analysis, it is drawn conclusions related to the main consideration of the architect in the design of Kostel Gejayan, especially its impact on the aspects of sustainability of the building.en_US
