    Abstract
    The challenge that is faced in religion education especially Moral education is how to implement it. It is not only to teach the knowledge of religion, but also how to make the students have the faithful quality, piety and good morality. Thereby, the moral theology is not only to teach the knowledge of religion but also how to perform the students' characteristics so that they have a strong faithfulness and piety. Their life will be covered by a good morality wherever they are and whatever they do. To face the above condition, the student' interest, motivation and enthusiastic in doing the values of religious belief and the good morality are not lost from the teachers’ role in teaching moral theology education in school. This research describes the implementation of Moral Theology learning to the students' characteristics performance in Islamic State Junior High School, Semanu, Gunungkidul. Beside that, this research also reveals the problems which are faced by the teachers in implementing moral theology learning, and the description of the planning, establishing and evaluating the problems faced by the moral theology teachers. This research used observation, interview and documentation methods in collecting the data. The qualitative technique was used in processing the data of observation, interview and documentation. The research result shows that : 1) The implementation of characteristics education in the planning of Moral Theology subject is still only in the planning of learning and have not shown in the learning characteristics yet. It means that the syllabus and the teaching learning program has included the character education but it is only administratively. 2) The implementation in the process is still conventional. The characteristics education learning uses the same pattern in the first and next learning, even the moral value cultivation is not relevant with the material which is taught. 3) The characteristics education implementation in the evaluation stage has been done, but it only uses one technique, that is observation.
