    Abstract
Petroleum fuel is one of the main needs that is widely used in various countries. However, fossil fuel reserves are depleting as fuel needs increase. Therefore, the existence of alternative renewable and environmentally friendly fuel is absolutely necessary. Biodiesel has the advantage of being biodegradable, environmentally friendly and can be produced from renewable natural materials such as vegetable oils. The use of homogeneous catalysts in biodiesel production is ineffective and environmentally unfriendly, since the catalyst is difficult to regenerate because it mixes with oil and methanol, causing a more complex separation process. To overcome this problem, we have studied the influence of reflux time in the conversion of rice bran oil biodiesel with modification of ZrO2 catalyst on the bamboo leaf. Bamboo leaf is one solution that can be used as an environmentally friendly catalyst for making biodiesel rice bran oil. Preparation of catalyst from bamboo leaf waste is by heating process and calcined at 500 oC for 4 hours and obtained bamboo ash leaf. The obtained bamboo leaves are added with ZrOCl2. The obtained solids were analyzed using XRD, SEM - EDX, FTIR, BET and Alkaline Analysis. The catalyst is used in the oil conversion process: methanol = 20:50 reflux for 2, 3 and 5 hours. The transesterification results were analyzed with GC-MS obtained the greatest conversion result at 3 hours by 37 mL, while the used catalyst with titration method based on the acidity value obtained the greatest conversion result at 5 hours at 45.94% The results showed the potential of waste utilization bamboo leaves for alternative energy production.
