Reinforced concrete structure such as reinforce conreted (RC) beam has a weakness namely it
self weight is too high, so innovation is needed to overcome this problem without losing its
strength. One of them is using a composite Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) as
replacement of concrete rebar. The value of the specific gravity of CFRP which is quite small is
expected to reduce the self-weight of concrete with the same strength capability. An experimental
study was carried out with 3 variants of reinforced concrete beams using a concrete compressive
strength of 20 MPa and hand lay-up CFRP bars. The first variant is a standard reinforced
concrete beam using steel reinforcement, the second variant is a single reinforced concrete beam
CFRP, and the third variant is a double reinforced concrete beam with CFRP and steel
reinforcement. Before a two-point load flexure test of RC beam was carried out, the tensile test
of CFRP was conducted with guidelines from ASTM D 3039/D 3039M-00. The results showed
that flexural strength of CFRP RC beam was decrease on both of varian 2 and varian 3 with
average of 41,0746% and 44,4145% respectively compared to the average flexural strength
varian 1 (standard steel reinforced concrete). Furthermore, the use of CFRP as reinforcement
also resulted in a decrease in the volume weight of reinforced concrete beams up to 4.8516%.
