A study of the synthesis of zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) catalysts introduced on silica (SiO2) obtained from bamboo ash as a catalyst of transesterification reaction of rice bran oil to biodiesel. SiO2 obtained from bamboo leaves are burned then processed through calcination using furnace for 4 hours with a temperature of 500 °C. After calcination is obtained SiO2 which is further reacted in a furnace with zirconium (IV) oxidchloride (ZrOCl2) to be obtained by ZrO2-SiO2 catalyst. The results of catalyst characterization using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) ZrO2 were successfully embedded in SiO2 bamboo ash, Scanning Electron Microskopy-Energy Dispersion X-ray (SEM-EDX) successfully synthesized bamboo ash and ZrO2, Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) Si-O functional groups as well as Zr-O and Brunaeur Emmet Teller (BET) dipping-adsorption patterns have mesoporous structures. In the results using titration with weight variation the obtained catalysts showed that the analyzed catalysts were potentially used as alternative energy to replace fossil fuels.en_US
