dc.description.abstractBackground: Stroke remains the second largest cause of death in the world after heart disease, ie 11.13% of total deaths. One of the research models in stroke is BCCAO (bilateral common carotid artery occlusion). However, those are variations of BCCAO ligation duration in ischemic brain which shows no standardization of BCCAO technique. Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) is a biomarker of cell damage such as ischemic. This study will look at the differences of lactate dehydrogenase concentration in rat cerebral cortex (Rattus norvegicus) with varied duration of transient ligation of bilateral common carotid artery. Objective: To determine the differences of lactate dehydrogenase concentration in rat cerebral cortex (Rattus norvegicus) with varied duration of transient ligation of bilateral common carotid artery. Research Method: This research is a quasi-experimental research with post-test control group design. The subjects were 24 rats (Rattus novergicus) which fulfill inclusion and exclusion criteria. Subjects were divided into four groups: group I is a sham group with incision without ligation, group II with 5 minutes ligation, group III with 10 minutes ligation, and group IV with 15 minutes ligation. Differences of LDH levels are analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Results: The level of LDH in group I, II, III, and VI consecutively are 1.31 ng/ml, 1.15 ng/ml, 1.48 ng/ml, and 1.26 ng/ml. The group III shows the highest levels of LDH. Conclusions: There is no difference of lactate dehydrogenase concentration in rat cerebral cortex (Rattus norvegicus) with varied duration of transient ligation of bilateral common carotid artery.en_US
