dc.description.abstract | Background : Soursop contains annonaceus acetogenins which is a compound that has the
ability to selectively damage cells. Annonaceus acetogenins compounds work by suppressing the
production of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphat) by the enzyme NADH oxidase inhibit in the plasma
membrane of cancer cells and inhibit complex 1 (NADH: ubiquinone oxidoreductase) of
mitochondrial. Inhibition of both enzymes will inhibit the growth of cancer cells. However,
Champy et al., (2004) reported that the effects of long term use of soursop root cause
degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the brain that can cause symptoms similar to
Parkinson's disease.
Objective: This study aimed to determine whether there Nucleus Accumbens neuron
degeneration in rats (Rattus norvegicus) were exposed to methanol extract of leaves of soursop
(Annona muricata). Knowing the difference in the number of nucleus accumbens neurons rat
(Rattus norvegicus) are experiencing vacuolisasi between groups exposed to methanol extract
leaves of soursop (Annona muricata) in the control group and the difference in size of the
nucleus accumbens core neurons rat (Rattus norvegicus) between the group exposed to methanol
extract of leaves of soursop (Annona muricata) in the control group.
Methods: This study is experimental post-test only control group design. There are two groups
in this study, the control group (group I) and the treatment group (group II), each of which
consists of five male rats (Rattus norvegicus) Spraque-Dawley strain. Group I was the control
group who were given distilled water, while the second is a group of soursop leaf methanol
extract were administered for 30 days at a dose of 300 mg / kg / day. Degeneration neuron
Nucleus Accumbens expressed vacuolisasi and change in size of the neuron Nucleus Accumbens
Results: Analysis test using Independent Sample T-Test significance values obtained<0.05,
while the analysis of the Mann Whitney U significance values> 0.05.
Conclusions: Provision of methanol extract of soursop leaf (Annona muricata) 300mg/kgBB/day
doses for 30 days showed that there were degeneration when seen from the change in size. | en_US |
