Redesain Stadion Palaran Dengan Pendekatan Arsitektur Berkelanjutan
Abstract
Palaran Main Stadium in Samarinda is one of the largest stadiums in Indonesia, built to accommodate the 2008
National Sports Week (PON). After the event, the stadium was handed over to the local government for
maintenance and use, but it became underutilized and eventually fell into disrepair. The high operational and
maintenance costs have been a major factor contributing to the stadium's neglect. This situation has led to the
stadium and the surrounding sports complex becoming dilapidated and damaged. This redesign project aims to
alleviate the high operational costs by redesigning the building using a sustainable architectural approach
emphasizing energy efficiency so that the local government and Palaran Stadium can manage the operational
burden and be actively used again. The design methodology includes qualitative data collection methods and
simulation-based natural ventilation methods using CFD software. The redesign results showcase a more modern,
attractive, and climate-adaptive building, incorporating retractable roof technology. Consequently, the stadium
is expected to become one of the major attractions in East Kalimantan, bringing it back to life and active use.
