Designing Water Education Tourism with Concept-Based Design Strategy and Parametric Approach
Abstract
For a long time, the utilization of natural resources has supported the needs of
surrounding ecosystems, especially in areas rich in such resources, like Berjo village in
Karanganyar. Water, as a vital natural resource, plays numerous roles in sustaining life,
supporting agriculture, and fostering recreational activities. In Berjo village, the
abundant natural water sources have been developed into several tourism sectors,
attracting many visitors.
Madirda Lake, a natural water spring in Berjo village, was established as a tourism area
in 2020 and continues to improve its tourism activities. Beyond its role as a scenic
attraction, Madirda Lake is a crucial water resource that supports both tourism and the
local ecosystem. The lake also houses a water treatment facility that utilizes the spring
water as mineral water. This dual-purpose use highlights the multifaceted importance
of water in both daily life and environmental sustainability.
Given the increasing number of tourists each year, there is a growing opportunity to
use Madirda Lake as an educational platform. Integrating water education into the
lake’s tourism activities can transform it into an eco-study destination. Visitors can
learn about the various functions of water, including its role in sustaining ecosystems,
its importance in daily life, and the processes involved in water treatment and
conservation. This approach not only enhances the tourist experience but also
promotes awareness and responsibility towards water conservation and sustainable
usage.
By positioning Madirda Lake as a center for water education, Berjo village can provide
valuable insights into the significance of water. This innovative strategy can foster a
deeper understanding of water's essential functions and the importance of preserving
this critical resource for future
