Design of Porang Culture Building Permaculture Building for Porang Plant in Pontianak by Emphasizing on Envelope System Design
Abstract
In Pontianak City, the production of Porang is still very low and rare, due to the fact that the type of soil in Pontianak is dominated by peat soil which has a high acid level. This land is not suitable for growing agricultural crops including Porang. Considering that the criteria for planting Porang plants have not been sufficiently met for the Pontianak area, especially because the type of land and the climate requires a little adjustment to the conditions for growing Porang plants, special treatment is needed so that Porang plants can continue to grow. In the city of Pontianak itself, the Porang farming community already exists but the Porang farmers in Pontianak have difficulty producing this type of plant due to several obstacles, such as the condition of the soil whose PH level must be modified first to make it neutral. With this project, it is hoped that the government can provide a pilot project to the people of Pontianak and the Porang farming community in West Kalimantan, so that they can provide education in improvising themselves on how to grow Porang indoors. On the other hand, the Porang plant itself is a plant that has a very high selling value when exported to neighboring countries such as Malaysia which is one of the third largest Porang export market shares which is directly adjacent to the West Kalimantan region, Pontianak. to plant Porang plants has potential and challenges to the design of agricultural building development plans. To overcome this, the architectural design and design method obtained a concept with a permaculture approach by emphasizing the building envelope system, so it’s able to regenerate itself within the environmental scope contained in the permaculture farming system. Permaculture building for Porang plants requires special handling in creating an artificial climate inside of the building that adapts to the growing conditions for Porang plants, so that the performance and modification of the building envelope design as the most important element of the building is highly emphasized. Architectural issues that will be resolved in this design case include the need for the appropriate intensity of sunlight, humidity, temperature, and water distribution systems in the building. By considering these aspects, it is expected to be able to increase the productivity of Porang plants.
