dc.description.abstract | Jatropha multifida Linn or often called the iodine tree is a shrub that is commonly
found in Indonesia. Chemical compounds of Jatropha multifida Linn have
antimicrobial ability against gram-positive bacteria such as Methicilin-resistant S.
auresus (MRSA), S. aureus, and S. Epedermis. In addition to having antimicrobial
ability, Jatropha multifida L multifact also has antifungal activity in C.alba (ATCC
1023), and antimalarial to Plasmodium falciparum. The purpose of this study was
to determine the antibacterial and antibiofilm activity of Jatropha multifida Linn
stem extract. The method used in this plant extraction process is by soxhletasi
method. To know the antibacterial activity of the extract was done by microdilution
method followed by the more specific activity test that is the test of microbial
activity of antibiofilm. Absorbance of bacterial biofilm colonies was measured by
ELISA reader. The resulting microdilution resulted in KHM of 1250 μg/mL and
KBM of 2500 μg/mL for Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 and MRSA. The
result of antibiofilm test showed that biofilm inhibition in Staphylococcus aureus
ATCC 25923 bacteria and MRSA with IC50 were 2225 μg/mL and 2643 μg/mL
respectively. And from this research it is found that biofilm can be more inhibited
by the ethyl acetate extract of Jatropha multifida L stem in ATCC 25923
Staphylococcus aureus bacteria than in MRSA-treated bacteria. This can be seen
from the value of IC50 obtained, because from previous research IC50 is good in
plants in inhibiting biofilm is at IC50 <3200 μg/mL. | en_US |
