| dc.description.abstract | Waste is material resulting from an activity or process that will
no longer be used and can have a negative impact on society if
it is not managed properly. The definition of waste can be found
in RI Menperindag Decree No. 231/MPP/Kep/7/1997 and
Government Regulation No. 18/1999, which states that waste is
leftover goods or materials from production activities or
processes whose function has changed. Waste has physical,
chemical and biological characteristics. The types of waste can
be grouped based on the source and type of compound, such as
domestic, industrial, agricultural, mining, tourism and medical
waste.
The waste generated at the Civil Engineering Department
Highway Lab, from practicum activities, student and lecturer
research is in the form of liquid waste and solid waste. The
liquid waste originates from the asphalt solubility test against
Tetra Chloro Ethylene (TCE) and the extraction test waste is the
solvent is Pertamax. This waste has the potential to be reused,
namely by re-purifying it with a distillation process using
specially designed tools. Based on the test results, it was found
that the waste resulting from the practicum and research
activities was still suitable for use or reuse by showing a
solubility value that was not too dominant, namely only having
a difference of 0.01%, namely the solubility of asphalt in the
waste TCE of 99.63% while pure TCE has a solubility value of
99.64%. So it can be concluded that this waste can still be used
for practical activities and further research without having to
use a new TCE. | en_US |
