dc.description.abstractPreliminary design of ethanol plant from corn starch with capacity 20,000 ton/year is planned to be built in Gresik, East Java. This chemical plant will be operated for 330 day/year or 24 hours a day with 165 employees. Raw material needed is corn starch 4.825,5912 kg/hour. The production process will be operated at temperature 105°C for hydrolysis and 35°C for fermentation, at pressure about of 1 atm using Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor. The utiliy consist of 12.241,1 kg/hour of cooling water, 22.021,7615 kg/hour of steam, 398,23 kW of fuel while the power of electricity of about 290 kVA provided by PLN. This chemical plant also use generator set as reserve. An economic analysis shows thats this chemical plant need to be covered by fixed capital of about Rp. 39.224.687.943, working capital of about Rp. 43.767.553.527. The profit before tax is Rp. 52.281.300.120 while the profit after tax is Rp. 26.140.650.060. Percentage of return on investemen (ROI) before tax is 40,26 % while after tax is 20,13 %. Pay out time (POT) before tax is 1,96 years while after tax is 3,28 years. The value of break evek point (BEP) for about 41,39 % and shut down point (SDP) of about 15,8 %. Based on the economic analysis, it is concluded that plant design of ethanol with capacity 20,000 ton/years visible to be built.en_US
