dc.description.abstractDiabetes mellitus is a disease requiring long term and lifetime therapy. Knowledge of patients on diabetes mellitus they suffered affected their behaviors to comply with medication procedure. Adherence with medication was one factor of therapeutic success. Knowledge of patients on diabetes mellitus and their adherencewith used of oral antidiabetic could increase therapeutic success. This research aimed to find knowledge level of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, adherence rate of patients with type2 diabetes mellitus and correlations between knowledge level and adherence with oral antidiabetic used in outpatients with type2 diabetes mellitus in RSUD PanembahanSenopatiBantul Yogyakarta. This research is analytic with cross sectional design. Sampling technique in this research used purposive sampling. Criteria of inclusion were patients having 40-65-year old ages, using oral antidiabetic and having been treated for more than 3 months. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires and medical recording for patients. Scores of knowledge were obtained from results of answering knowledge questionnaires containing questions on diabetes mellitus consisting of therapy, diet, sport, foot care and monitoring for blood sugar. Evaluation of adherence used scores derived from Modified Morisky Scale questionnaires. Statistical test used Chi Square with 95% confidence interval. The results of research could be used to conclude that, of 83 patients, those having high knowledge level were 51.81%, those complying with use of oral antidiabetic were 62.65%, there were correlations between characteristics of patients and knowledge level (education 0.000) and adherence with use of oral antidiabetic (used of drug 0.037, education 0.025 and complication 0.018), there were correlations between knowledge and adherence with use of oral antidiabetic where the value is 0.006 ( < 0.05).
