dc.description.abstractThe preliminary design of Fatty Acid Methyl Ester with capacity 40.000 ton/year is plant to be built in Dumai, Riau in the area of land 27.475 m2. This chemical plant will be operated for 330 day/year or 24 hours a day with 156 employees. The raw material needed is CPO waste 5.803,1284 kg/hour, metanol 659,8634 kg/hour, Sulfuric Acid 161,3981 kg/hour and Kalium Hidroxide 12,53 kg/hour. The production process will be operated for esterification at temperature 70˚C, at pressure about 1 atm by using Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) with convertion of reaction 98,99 % and for transesterification at temperature 70˚C, at pressure about 1 atm by using Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) with convertion of reaction 93 %. The utiliies consist of 902.307,9357 kg/hour of cooling water; 762,5034 kg/hour of steam; 8,5071 lt/hour of Industrial Diesel Oil (IDO); 63,0272 lt/hour of fuel oil while the power of electricity of about 23,5231 Kwh provided by PLN. This chemical plant is also using generator set as reserve. The economic analysis shows that this chemical plant needs to be covered by fixed capital of about Rp 91.478.033.725,82; working capital of about Rp 69.848.072.761,29. The profit before tax is Rp 25.750.145.747,70 while the profit after tax is Rp 15.450.087.448,62. The percentage of return on investement (ROI) before tax is 28,1% while after tax is 16,9%. The pay out time (POT) before tax is 2,6 years while after tax is 3,7 years. The value of break even point (BEP) is 49,35% and the shut down point (SDP) is 25,96% and the Discounted Cash Flow Rate (DCFR) is 36,79%. Based on the economic analysis, it is concluded that the plant design of Fatty Acid Methyl Ester with capacity 40.000 ton/years is visible to be built.en_US
