Penurunan Konsentrasi Biological Oxigen Demand (BOD) dan Total Suspended Solid (TSS) pada Limbah Septick Tank dengan Menggunakan Reaktor Fluidized Bed Media Styrofoam Saat Start Up
Abstract
Waste water which not yet experienced of treatment can be certain to contain many undesirable components. If thrown to territorial waters environment, in some between others will be show the problem of oxygen decrease, while another possible stimulate growth of certain microorganism like alga. The components consist of materials organic and inorganic, as well as dissolved or not dissolved. In this research is conducted treatment of domestic waste by using Fluidized Bed Reactor with Styrofoam media. The objective of this research is to know degradation of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) concentration and Total Suspended Solid (TSS) concentration in domestic waste at the time of startup. In this research is used Fluidized Bed reactor made of plastic which consist of two partition where in each partition have an media of Styrofoam diameter 0,5 cm as much as 15% from the height. Before treatment of domestic waste which grow bacteria is done, that is conducted bacteria starter to give addition early bacteria from outside until motivate process forming of biofilm at growth media, that is Styrofoam. This Process is conducted by stream water of septictank which have been given bacteria of EM4 addition from reservoir into reactor. Sampling process is done from first day of startup after bacteria starter until before situation of steady dead. The Method used for Examination of BOD titrimetri according to SNI M-69-1990-03 and Method Examination Of Water Quality Physics SK SNI M-03-1990-F for TSS. The research conducted until 30 days at the time of startup show degradation of BOD concentration equal to 39.17% and degradation of TSS concentration equal to 60,6%. The Percentage mean of change pH equal to 2,32% and temperature 1,46%. Value of pH and temperature is still good for the start up condition. Degradation of BOD concentration happened caused by decomposition of organic matter by microorganism while degradation of TSS happened caused by screening process.
