dc.description.abstract | Banyumas Regency is one of the areas in Central Java Province that has a variety of cultural and natural
wealth. Typical regional arts and culture include calung and lengger. However, the development of the era of art
studios as a place to learn regional arts is decreasing. This will hinder the process of preserving regional culture
and arts. As a district city, Purwokerto is a fairly dense city. Public facilities in it must be balanced with
community activities in it. One of them is the need for green open space as a public space in which it can
accommodate the activities of the surrounding community to carry out sports activities, a child-friendly play
area or a relaxing area to enjoy the atmosphere of the existing park. From these problems, it is necessary to have
a cultural center that has a public area as a center for arts and activities to facilitate the community in
Purwokerto and its surroundings.
By applying the concept of critical regionalism, it is hoped that this design can become an icon of the city
of Banyumas in the arts and culture fields. This design applies and considers aspects of culture, art, natural
conditions and social conditions that exist in Banyumas Regency in determining building designs and functions
therein. In addition, the building landscape, namely public areas in the form of parks and skateparks, is part of
the city element to support urban life and meet the unmet needs of green open areas.
In the design process of the Banyumas Cultural Center, there are several stages of the method that are
passed, including data collection, data analysis, problem identification, design schematic, test results and the
final stage is design refinement. Lack of learning facilities for traditional arts and the lack of a place for artists to
express their talents are architectural aspects and the lack of green open public areas in urban areas is a design
background in addressing regional problems.
The design that has gone through the analysis process and other methods has resulted in a Cultural Center
design that can maximize every function of space inside and outside with a critical regionalism approach as a
solution to addressing this design problem.
