dc.description.abstract | Samarinda is the capital of East Kalimantan which has a diversity of cultures and abundant natural
resources, so it has the potential as a tourist city by optimizing existing conditions. The lack of attention
related to cultural preservation in Samarinda has led to the loss of Samarinda's identity as a “City of Edges”.
Based on this issue, it is necessary to revive the identity of the city of Samarinda by designing a cultural
center that is integrated with the Mahakam river. The integration of the Mahakam riverbank can be applied
through the waterfront concept. Then, seeing the current pandemic phenomenon which is increasing and
can’t be predicted when it will end, then in the design it is necessary to have a sector that can increase profits
as potential winners, so that the design of this cultural center is facilitated by the existence of MSMEs.
Based on hydrological conditions, Samarinda has 20 watersheds. However, the regulation and
condition of rivers has not been expanded optimally. So that the problem of flooding due to overflow of the
Mahakam river still occurs regularly every year. Then, in this case adapting to flooding is a solution in
landscape design. The approach of this design is ood resilience. The method used is direct observation of
existing conditions and literature study of related objects.
The purpose of this design is to accommodate art appreciation, expression, and education activities
to develop culture in Samarinda through a cultural center with MSMEs and integrated with the Mahakam
river also adapting to existing conditions in the form of flooding, and based on health protocols of covid-19.
