Background: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the pathogenic bacteria that can cause various types of infections. Some cases, the treatment of antibiotics is not effective. The ability of bacteria to form biofilms causes antibodies cannot reach the target work on bacterial cells. Currently, the use of herbal medicine as an alternative treatment starts to take precedence. There is a lot of potential of herbal medicine in inhibiting the formation of Staphylococcus aureus biofilms, but there is still lack of information about it. Objectives: To determine the potential of herbal medicine, and to find out the best herbal medicine and their compound which are expected to be applied in inhibiting the formation of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 biofilms. Methods: This research is a literature study. Library search using the PICO method. Problem ("biofilm", "Staphylococcus aureus"), Intervention ("herbal medicine", "medicinal plants"), Comparison ("-"), and Outcome ("inhibition", "inhibition", "Antibiofilm"). Data collection is carried out by library research conducted by searching scientific journals. After that, an analysis and correlation are sought to form comprehensive information. Results: The herbal medicine in this study were able to inhibit the formation of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 biofilms. Piper regnellii leaves became the best herbal medicine in this study with a concentration of 15.6 μl / mL able to inhibit 95% of the formation of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 biofilms Conclusion: Herbal medicine has the potential to inhibit the formation of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 biofilms. Some herbal medicine such as Jatropha mulfida, Centella asiatica, Chromolaena odorata, Piper regnellii, Urginea maritima, and Camellia sinensis contain phenol, terpenoids, alkaloids, sapanins, neolignans, flavonoids and tannins compounds. Piper regnelli has the best antibiofilm activity in this study to be applied in the community.en_US
