dc.description.abstract | Shelter for disaster mitigation is a building that is built in structural
mitigation measures to respond disasters. This building is a public facility that is
used when a disaster occurs as the evacuation of local communities.
For more than ten years after the tsunami, mitigation itself is still very low in
the area of Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh. Banda Aceh region had already has some
shelters for disaster mitigation. However, because it is located in the city center, it
is difficult for people living in coastal areas to reach. Moreover, the shelter
building only has a function as a place of evacuation, thus the building is
abandoned and neglected because it is only used when the disaster occurs.
The existence of the shelter for disaster mitigation which has the flexibility of
space in coastal areas, would induce the people who live around have a purpose
to be sheltered when a disaster occurs. The flexibility of the space could also be
used for other activities, therefore the building would be remained crowded.
Furthermore, the emphasis of Islamic architecture design concept was responded
by exploiting the potential of Acehnese culture and Islamic values that is utilized
as guiding principles in building design. | en_US |
