dc.description.abstractRapid population growth in Yogyakarta causes the number of new houses built increased. In addition, the solid waste quantity from civilian resident in Yogyakarta also continues to increase. This causes accumulation of waste. Methane gas is renewable energy source which is environmentally safe and can be produced from biomass. In Indonesia, technology of methane production is relatively new and still on a small scale, whereas methane is needed in large amount. This will be a serious problem because fossil fuels are currently the world's main energy sources and cannot be renewed. Therefore, methane plant is needed to be design. This preliminary chemical engineering plant design of biogas was intended to fulfill the needed of methane gas in Yogyakarta. Solid waste by civilian residents in the next can be take the organic waste fraction from Sleman, Bantul and Yogyakarta, are used as raw materials in biogas production. This Biogas production used anaerobic digester process. The plant will be built in Bantul county, Special Region of Yogyakarta. This plant operates continously for 330 days/year with organic waste produc 122.000 ton/year and producing product of CH4 with capacity of 4.182,899 ton/year, side product of fertilizer of 9.261,443 ton/year, and side product of plastic waste of 35.782,35 ton/year. Waste generated is organic solid wastes that can be used as fertilizer. This plant is planned in form of Perseroan Terbatas (PT). This projectis concluded that this Biogas plant is technically feasible where this plant has a low hazard rate seen from the process where the temperatures used range from 27-35 ° C and pressures range from 1-4 atm. And the auxiliary raw material, NaOH, is easy and has no harmful properties. This Biogas plant is also financially feasible. Based on the results of economic evaluation, we can see that the percentage of Break Even Point (BEP) is 42,91 %, Return on Investment (ROI) before tax is 43,68 % and after tax is 21,84 %, Pay Out Time (POT) before tax is 2 years and after tax is 3.1 years, Shut Down Point (SDP) is 25,92 %. Discounted Cash Flow Rate is 14,80 %, Pre-tax profit is Rp. 54.129.325.778 and profit after tax is Rp. 27.064.662.889.en_US
