dc.description.abstractOne drawback of linear elastic analyses is its inability to reflect the real behaviors of structures approaching ultimate loading conditions, since almost all structures behave in some nonlinear manner prior reaching their limit of resistance. The basic consideration here is that a more realistic evaluation of the strength of structure against the failure conditions, or the factor of safety, can be archived only by analysis that take into account various nonlinearity. A method developed to analyzing space truss structure by combining finite element theory andnumerical techniques. The procedure of analysis and formulations of the nonlinear finite element techniques as follows. (1) Element stiffness is developed by using the principal ofvirtual displacement in the incremental Lagrange formulation, (2) simultaneous equations solved by using modified Colicky method with skyline factorization matrix, and (3) solution of nonlinear incremental and iterative equation were performed using generalized Displacement Control method. A computer program implementing the analysis procedures discussed herein has been developed, and numbers of numerical examples are considered to demonstrate.en_US
