The development methods of analysis using derivative spectrophotometric method, which is one of the spectrophotometric method which can be used for analysis directly on mixtures of several substances without making a separation, although with an adjacent wavelengths.. The aims of this study to determine the mixture of methyl paraben and propyl parabens in cosmetic creams were analyzed by spectrophotometric method UV / Vis derivatives, to determine a development method of analysis has a good value of validation, as well as to determine levels of methyl paraben and propyl paraben in the preparation creams accordance with BPOM. Spectrophotometry UV / Vis used as a method of analysis for preservatives because the method is simple, sensitive, and inexpensive operating costs. The analysis was conducted using content-Derivative Spectroscopy First order with a wavelength of 242.4 nm and 242.6 nm. The results of method validation show this method has a good validity for all parameters according to the AOAC validation. This method has a good linearity with r> 0.99. Precision with RSD values for methyl paraben at a wavelength of 242.4 nm and 242.6 nm respectively 4.04% and 3.78%, while for propyl paraben respectively 0.36% and 0.39 %. This method has a good accuracy with the average value percent recovery for methyl paraben at a wavelength of 242.4 nm and 242.6 nm respectively in the range of 93.58 to 118.86% and 82.75 to 112.93 %, while for propyl paraben is from 83.33 to 102.29% and 84.61 to 101.82%. Preservative levels of methyl paraben sample is 6,015 x10-4% w / w whereas propyl paraben 0.02% w / w. These levels were obtained did not exceed the maximum safe limit according to Food and Drug Administration (BPOM), there are no more than 0.4% w / w.
