The petroleum demand in Indonesia increases each year. The increasing demand followed by the decreasing of fuel production. According to Indonesia Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resourcesby 2025 the use of fossil energy must be 20% maximum. One of the solutions to this increasing demand is by using biofuel energy which is biodiesel. Biodiesel produces more environmentally friendly residue that could reduce carbon footprint.Biodiesel is made of various seeds that contain fatty acids and triglycerides such as sunflower seed, safflower seed, canola seed, and jatropha. The use of Jatropha curcas in this plant designis based on fewconsiderations, which are the avability in Indonesia, the price of the material, the yield it produces from the reaction. Biodiesel (methyl ester) manufacturing is carried out through Transesterification process with alkaline based catalyst. The capacity of this Biodiesel plant is 20.000 tons/year and operates for 330 days a year in 24 hours. The product is predicted to fulfill the demand of biodiesel in Pasuruan, East Java. The plant building area is 8000 m 2. The location of the plant is going to be in Pasuruan, East Java where it’s relatively close to the main raw material which is Jatropha oil producer PT Alegria Indonesia. Jathropha curcas oil flows at rate of 20442.7375 tons/year, methanol 12630.2304 tons/year, Natrium Hidroxide 187.5700 tons/year and Hydrochloric Acid 549.4211 tons/year. The reaction will be carried out by using Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor or CSTR with reaction conversion 98%. The reactor operates on 60oC and 1 atm. The economic analysis result inthe value of BEP 44,46% and SDP percentage 25,99%. The economic analysis result shows that the Biodiesel Plant from Jatropha curcas Oil with 20,000 tons/year capacity is feasible to build and is a low risk chemical plant.
