Diarrhea is currently still a global health problem especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. The incidence rate of diarrhea in pediatric patients reaches 1 billion cases every year, with a mortality of 4 million deaths every year. Exclusive breastfeeding can protect babies from diarrhea by supplementing them with immunity-related factors. Objective :To determine the correlation between exclusive and non-exclusive breastfeeding and its determinants with incidence of diarrhea in 0-24 months old babies admitted from January-December 2015. Methods : This is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design. A total of 54 samples were obtained thorugh medical records in RS KIA Rachmi Yogyakarta Hospital. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test. Results : Showed a significant correlation between history of exclusive breastfeeding and diarrhea (p= 0,016) with a prevalence ratio (PR = 0,534), and no significant correlation between mother’s age (p=0,167) and mother’s occupation (p=0,27) with incidence of diarrhea in babies. Conclusion : There is a correlation between exclusive breastfeeding and nonexclusive breastfeeding with diarrhea incidence, while mother’s age and occupation are not found related. Key words : exclusive breastfeeding, mother’s age and occupation, diarrhea.
