MRT station at Lempuyangan, Yogyakarta is designed for transportation and public space by optimizing the passive design principle as well as solar energy harvesting. Design methods that used in the design of the MRT station was divided into several stages. First determine the design issues, at this stage finding design issues that related with environmental, building energy, and social issues . The second stage is a problem finding. This stage generate design problems parameter that inclued passive strategies, independent energy provider, and public spaces. The third stage is the solving of the problem, in this stage, synthesizing the design parameters and design quality are done. The components of synthesis are consist with : spatial pattern, mass composition, facades, structures, technology and the building landscape. The fourth stage is the design testing which through logic test (mathematical calculations, ecotect software applications and questionnaires). And the fifth stage is designing the DED which has passed the test design. The Design of MRT station building contain 3 (three) stories. Which the orientation of the mass of the building facing toward the sun's heat radiation that comes from Northwest. MRT station building top use a curved roof that applied photovoltaic cells to harvest solar energy as a clean energy. The building envelope implementing the louvre in order to maximize passive cooling and lighting. Based on the evaluation, the MRT station have been reach it thermal comfort. With an area of 2.249 m3 openings must be provided, which the design meets the standards reached 8.096 m3 total area of openings. The testing that related to natural lighting can be known through ecotect software, it is known that the incoming light is reflected light with illumination intensity of 45-60%. The use of photovoltaic cells has cover the 100% energy needs of the building. Keyword : MRT station, photovoltaic, passive design, green energy, public space
