Dialogue, Involvement, Support, And Control In Efl Online Learning During The Pandemic
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the extent of the implementation of DISC
(dialogue, involvement, support and control) in EFL online learning
(Comeey & Stephenson, 2001). The participant of this study is an English
language teacher from one of public senior high school in Yogyakarta. This
research was designed as an observational study. The data was collected
from recording a synchronous meeting using Google Meet and from an
asynchronous meeting using Google Classroom. The data showed support
was the most frequently used by the teacher during online class. Even
though support was the most frequently used that was implemented by the
teacher, DISC theme were equally essentials to be implemented to engage
students in online learning. Moreover, the result showed the teacher has
implemented the DISC theme in online learning during the pandemic
although not all theme are implemented ideally. Thus, the researcher
recommended for the future study to explore more deeply with a greater
number of meetings so that the results are more detailed and discover all
forms of interaction from DISC theme.
